LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: GARY FISHER -- The “Lifetime Achievement Award” was presented to Gary Fisher at the Lat 34 X-Dance closing night ceremony. Fisher is the Godfather of Mountain" BikingThis award is a fitting tribute to Fisher, whose accomplishments in the industry span over four decades. Fisher started bombing down the dirt trails of Mt. Tamalpais on beater bikes salvaged from the dump in 1969. He then went on to design mountain bikes and helped coin the phrase for the sport. He started NORBA (National Off-Road Bike Association) which now has over 30,000 members. He has also built the successful Gary Fisher Bikes line and Trek eventually bought his company. He also had a hand in pushing the development of the bike with dual suspension and 29” wheels.
X-DANCE HONORS: An honorary award to the ACTION SPORTS ENVIROMENTAL COALITION (ASEC) and its founder, FRANK SCURRA, for their work as leaders in the environmental movement. In an effort to keep our oceans clean and preserve pristine wilderness, action sports culture has been at the forefront of global consciousness about various environmental issues throughout history, from recycling and renewable sources of energy to teaching respect for the power and beauty of nature, and ASEC (www.asceaction.org) has led that charge in this generation. From greening the X-Games, to the Gravity Games and skate parks throughout the country, and to building awareness among youth through educational programs, ASEC has delivered the goods as a steward of the environment. They have made a difference.
